Public Universities Warning Strike Begins Today

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities has made known in a statement jointly signed by their leaders that Non teaching staff in the nation’s Universities are to commence a two-week warning strike from Monday october 5, has the strike is general across all public universities in the country.

The unions said the decision to embark on the warning strike was in fulfillment of their resolve to begin industrial action as soon as the Federal Government directed universities to resume academic activities.

The two unions said the warning strike may result into a full industrial action if they are not responded to by the Federal Government.

Issues in dispute include non-payment of arrears of their national minimum wage for 10 months,non-showing of seriousness in renegotiating their 2009 agreement, inconsistency in the implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), non-payment of arrears of their earned allowance since 2012, neglect and poor funding of state universities, corruption and non-constitution of visitation panels as well as a usurpation of headship in non-academic matters by the academic staff as the contentious issues.
