Arsenal football club have confirmed that the red card shown to David Luiz for a foul on Willian Joséduring in the first half of their defeat to Wolves on Tuesday night will stand.
Luiz was sent off by Pawson in first-half injury time minute at Molineux after accidentally clipping the leg of Wolves striker Willian Jose in the penalty area as he tried to get back into position.
The decision of referee Craig Pawson to send off the Brazilian defender baffled many football fans, not just Arsenal fans.
Arsenal have now seen their appeal to overturn the decision thrown out by the Football Association who have confirmed that the red card will stand.
In a statement released on club’s website, It reads: “The Football Association have confirmed to us that the red card given to David Luiz on Tuesday against Wolverhampton Wanderers will stand.
We have worked really hard to overturn David Luiz’s red card. We presented our case to the FA but are disappointed that our appeal has been unsuccessful.
We accept the FA’s decision and continue our preparations for Saturday’s match against Aston Villa.”
David Luiz will now miss Arsenal next three matches excluding UEFA Europa League match against Benfica.
