Former governor of Abia state Orji Uzor Kalu has shown interest in buying 35 percent stake at Arsenal Football club.
Senator Kalu made the announcement in a post on his official Facebook account. He said the success of Enyimba football club during his time as Governor of Abia has increased his passion for football and he is ready to acquire the Premier League giant.
“Our success with Enyimba football club between 2000-2007 has continuously increased my passion for football. As the pillar of sports in Africa , I am considering an investment in football and I will buy 35 percent stake in Arsenal FC.”
The senator currently representing Abia North in the Nigerian National Assembly stated that his aim is to lead the Londoner to win the Champions League as well as the Premier League back-to-back.
“Our target is to lift the Champions League and Premier League back to back as we did in Enyimba.”
During his tenure as the Governor of Abia state between 1999 and 2007, the state’s club Enyimba of Aba dominated the Nigerian football scene, winning the Nigeria Professional Football League five times – 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007.
Enyimba became the first Nigerian club to win the CAF Champions League during that time winning it in 2003.
The Abia based club also won the CAF Super Cup in 2004 and 2005.
