Manchester City owner purchases FA Cup trophy for $1m

Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed has bought an actual FA Cup trophy that was awarded to the winner of football’s oldest competition between 1896 and 1910.

City confirmed the purchase and their intention of loaning it back to the National Football Museum in Manchester.

Although the cost of the trophy wasn’t disclosed by Manchester City but Skysports reported that Sheikh Mansour paid around £760,000 for the silverware.

It became the oldest existing version of the trophy after the previous version was stolen while on display in a shop and has never been seen since then.
